Valentyna lived in Izium until her retirement. She taught children to play the piano. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, her daughter and grandchildren went to Germany. Valentyna did not dare to leave her home, and the city began to suffer from russian shelling. “First, the piano burned down, and later the russians destroyed the house”, the woman said.
Valentyna was hiding in the nearest bomb shelter, which became her home, and later the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated the city. It was dangerous to stay there, so after the de-occupation of Izium, she immediately called the Foundation’s hotline and requested evacuation, dreaming of reuniting with her family in Germany.
With the Solidar Suisse support, the Vostok SOS team helped Valentyna evacuate to Germany. Now she is getting treatment in a small town near Berlin and is waiting for her family.
