Comprehensive assistance to conflict affected and internally displaced persons, activation of the society to solve the problems and to achieve systemic changes for consolidation of democratic values and human rights culture in Ukraine
“Vostok-SOS” (East in translation) as a Civil Initiative aiming to help the conflict affected persons in eastern Ukraine was created on May 5, 2014 by activists of Luhansk Human Rights Center “Postup”, Crimean Human Rights Center “Diya” and the Civil Sector of Luhansk EuroMaydan.
We were one of the first volunteer initiatives whose activists began to provide assistance to victims of military aggression in the east of the country and in Crimea, helping to find shelter for temporary residents, logistics of safe evacuation from the conflict zone, search, release and rehabilitation of victims of abductions by collecting and distributing humanitarian aid for settlers in Kyiv, as well as delivering humanitarian goods to front-line settlements, providing psychological assistance.
In Spring 2015, Charitable organization “Charity foundation “East-SOS” has been registered. We continue to support conflict affected and internally displaced persons, to work at restoration of the region affected from military aggression, to promote democratic changes in the region and the country in general.
The content of the activities in first years of the initiative’s operation has been constantly changing under the influence of events and changes of the situation in the eastern region. Currently, the Charitable Foundation Vostok-SOS is working in Kyiv, Severodonetsk and along the frontline (Government controlled area), carrying out the following activities:
- legal assistance
- humanitarian aid
- educational activities
- social and psychological support
- documenting human rights violations
- law enforcement monitoring
- advocacy, improvement of Ukrainian legislation
